Innovation Research Council

Information Communication Technologies (ICTs) are recognized as very important tools for delivering public services and supporting progress towards the SDGs realisation. Specifically, digital innovations are needed to ameliorate the persistent digital divide and other unique challenges facing the developing countries as ours.

Members of the Innovation Council for Nigeria comprise of oustanding digital enterpreneurs who have at one time or another researched, designed and developed great innovation with positive social impact on the Nigerian Society and beyond.

They are all United Nations World Summit Awards rated innovation producers who have successfully passed the national pre-selection jury process of the Eminent National Expert for Nigeria who in himself is a polyglot programmer, a financial expert, an astute innovator and industry stakeholder with numerous awards.

The Innovation Council members are hereby invited to give back to the society in our continous ecosystem capacity development programmes along with our foreign collaborators and innovators alike.

Back in 2013 when the Governor Rauf Aregbesola-led Government of Osun launched Opon Imo, meaning ‘Tablet of Knowledge’, many were skeptical about its sustainability and its effectiveness in combating the low rate of student performance, especially for secondary school students writing final year West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination, WASSCE.

Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola superintends over some of the nation’s paramilitary services namely; the Federal Fire Service, Nigerian Prisons Service, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and the Nigeria Immigration Service. Unlike in the recent past where his immediate predecessor Abdulrahman Dambazau also partially supervised the Nigerian Police Force, there is now a Ministry of Police Affairs as it was in the past.

He is a Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Management ( FNIM), Nigerian Society of Engineers ( FNSE), Nigerian Association of Technological Engineers ( FNATE) and of the Certified Marketing Communications Institute of Nigeria (FCMCIN).

Cinderella Temitope Ochu is a prolific researcher with strong analytical skill sharpened by national and international exposure in academia.

She bagged a Bachelor of Arts Degree in International Studies and Diplomacy with a second class upper division at the University of Beninthen proceeded for her Masters Degree (M.A, History) in the same institution.

With a thesis on gender, Ochu’s passion for the study of women has grown expansively, thus, she has worked on several articles on gender as it relates to politics, economy, culture and environment. She is currently running her PhD at the University of Johannesburg, South Africa, and engaged in a multi-country study of the history of 20th century and modern reproductive technologies in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Ochu developed an interest for research as a journalist with Newswatch Communications Ltd few years ago. So far, she has served in various capacities at different organisations as Unit head and has employed these experiences to advance her professional career. Dr. (Mrs.) Omowunmi HASSAN is an IT professional per excellence. She had her 1st and 2nd degrees in Computer Science from the then Ondo State University, Ado -Ekiti and Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) Ile-Ife respectively.

Her Doctorate degree in Technology Management and Policy Analysis at OAU, Ife in 2010 with special trainings as knowledge exchange expertise in Policy Design, Formulation, Evaluation and Analysis at the Oxford Internet Institute (OII), Oxford University UK and the Sussex University (SU), Brighton UK in 2006 and 2008 respectively during her PhD programme.

I was given a letter of commendation by the Group Managing Director in 2013 staff evaluation year. • I later Headed Public Sector and Non-Interest Banking wherein we pioneered the Non- interest Banking business and grew its deposit base from zero to N5.5Billion within 2years, with only two ordinary non-lending Asset products. If we had more Asset products we could have generated not less than N50Billion liabilities within the same period. The Bank was processing for approval of more asset products from, the Central Bank, at the time of my early retirement/disengagement. January 2001 – March 2012 Tiddo Securities Limited Managing Director Key role and achievements • I was invited by the then owners of Tiddo and offered 40% equity stake, in 1999 to come and rescue the company from imminent collapse. • I took up the challenge and grew the company’s shareholders funds from N6million to over N1Billion as at date. • We also consistently paid cash dividends from 2001 to 2008 prior to the stock market crash. July 1996 - 2000 Stanbic Merchant Bank Limited Assistant General Manager- Northern Area Office Key role and achievements • I was hired in 1996, as a Senior Manager, with a mandate to turnaround the only Northern Branch office of the Bank failing which the Branch would be closed down due to its history of non-performance. • My team Managed to turn the Branch around back to profitability (N3Million) within my first year of engagement. I was promoted to the position of Assistant General Manager (AGM) after one year and given an added mandate/responsibility to establish Abuja Branch and Manage the two Branches (Abuja/Kano) as Zonal Manager. • I managed the two Branches profitably up to my exit in December, 2000. • My engagement in the Branch also helped to improve the Bank’s visibility in the North which was grossly lacking.
